Catfish are about to be battered and fried and served up by the men’s ministry at First United Methodist Church for anyone who wants to fill their bellies and support a cause.

The United Methodist Men is a service organization supporting missionaries, scouts and scholars in Brookhaven. They also help put vinyl siding on homes for Habitat for Humanity.

“We’ve been around for probably 40 years,” UMM Treasurer Paul Baham said. “We’ve put vinyl siding on over 20 Habitat houses in Lincoln County.”

Every year, for their sole fundraiser, UMM hosts a fish fry in the First United Methodist Church parking lot. This year’s fundraiser will be March 19 from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.  UMM Treasurer said that they’ll make the date work rain or shine.

“We have no made any plans, but even if it rains we’ll do it somewhere,” UMM Treasurer Paul Baham said. “Normally, we put up a tent and do it in the parking lot, and the frier — their machine is covered. They can do all weather. We’ll make it work.”

Buie’s Catering is bringing the fish and the fryer. Ticket prices this year are $9 this year, and can be purchased by UMM members or by calling FUMC at 601-833-3519.

Baham said money from the fundraiser will go to supporting missionaries, Mississippi Scholars, the FUMC thanksgiving meal and boy scout and cub scouts trooped in FUMC.
