A Brookhaven highway construction company is overseeing two multi-million dollar projects that will mean smoother rides for Lincoln Countians.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation will begin work on an overlay project on Hwy. 84 in Lincoln and Franklin counties. Dickerson & Bowen is the contractor.

Crews will seal and overlay 12 miles of Hwy. 84 from the railroad bridge around Lucien in Franklin County to the junction of Hwy. 51 in Lincoln County. The ramps on I-55 at Hwy. 84 will also be paved.

Construction signs will go up on Monday and work will start after.

Throughout this project, drivers should expect lane closures that will last overnight to prevent traffic from driving on scrub seal areas where liquid asphalt is covered by gray rock. Drivers should be aware there will be loose rocks throughout these areas and are asked to use extreme caution.

Drivers should also expect ramp closures at I-55 at Hwy. 84 during paving. Signs will be in place to alert drivers of the closures.

This $7.2 million project was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen Inc. and will include repairing failed roadway areas, scrub seal of the roadway, and asphalt overlay on top of the roadway.

The project is expected to wrap up winter 2020.

Dickerson & Bowen was also awarded a $4.4 million contract for an 11-mile mill and overlay project on I-55 from Hwy. 84 to the Copiah County line in Lincoln County. MDOT will release additional information regarding timelines and impacts to traffic prior to the start of the construction.
