King’s Daughters Medical Center has established a mobile screening site for those individuals who are experiencing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.

Dr. Blaine Britt, a physician at KDMC Medical Clinic on Brookway Boulevard has been instrumental in leading the COVID-19 team in getting the site ready.

“We are facing something a little different than business as usual. The best way to prevent the spread of this virus for healthcare workers is the proper use of Personal Protection Equipment and isolation and quarantine for the patients that are symptomatic or test positive,” he said.

The idea for the site came from conversations with staffs from the emergency room staff and medical clinic as they are balancing the usual day-to-day patient load with those suspected of exposure and symptomatic of COVID-19. The site allows those individuals to have a quicker easier access to a screening without leaving their vehicle.

Registered nurse Lisa Shann, the KDMC clinical staff coordinator, brought the staff up to speed with the project.

“Her ability to get this project up and running quickly is remarkable,” Britt said.

The community’s health and well-being is important to KDMC, said hospital spokesman David Culpepper.

“Our families live, play, worship and shop here, too,” he said.  We urge you to practice good hygiene, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, use hand sanitizer in between hand washes and practice social distancing. If you have been asked to quarantine please do so. Look at it as a staycation — avoid leaving your home unless absolutely necessary. That means no work, school or church and saying no to your cousin’s wedding.”

The COVID screening site is located behind the emergency room and will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice. This screening is for individuals 12 years of age and up.

Individuals are asked to call 601- 835-9455 before visiting the screening site. Patients under 12 years of age should contact KDMC Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic at 601-823-5204.

Traffic for this site should enter from Brookman Drive behind the hospital. Signs will be visible will direct motorists to the screening site.
