Senior spotlight: Enterprise Yellow Jackets baseball seniors were playoff fixtures

Seeing the Enterprise Yellow Jackets and coach Cass Brister make a playoff run each year in the 2A baseball postseason has become a common sight for area sports fans.
A big part of that success has been the five-man 2020 Enterprise senior class.
“I don’t think Enterprise baseball is as successful as it has been over the last few years if we don’t have these guys,” said Brister. “This group was bought in as leaders in their senior year. They were determined to make the most of their last season.”
Brister also praises the hard work of the parents of each senior player. It hurts to lose such a committed group of families to a season that barely got started due to Covid-19.
“I was really looking forward to coaching these guys one last time,” said Brister. “These five do things the right way — they don’t gripe, they do whatever you ask. I know they’re going to be successful in whatever they do — that I know.”
Colby Beard
The son of Robert and Cheryl Beard, Colby plans to attend Copiah-Lincoln Community College and major in business administration. A versatile player who has caught, played first, pitched and come up with some big hits in his career, Beard was a Daily Leader All-Area selection last season who played six years of baseball at Enterprise.
Wyatt Burns
The son of Todd and Kayla Burns, Wyatt’s future plans are undecided at this time. An athletic outfielder who also suited up for the Jacket basketball team, Burns played six years of baseball for Enterprise.
Austin Fugler
The son of Chase and Mandy Fugler, Austin plans to attend Hinds Community College on a baseball scholarship and pursue a career in the medical field. A southpaw with a whip-like delivery who can pile up the strikeouts, Fugler was a Daily Leader All-Area selection last season as well as an MAC 2A All-State pick.
Dustin Prather
The son of Randy and Jessica Prather, Dustin plans to attend Copiah-Lincoln Community College and study in the Automation Control Program while also being a member of the cheer team. A standout defensive second baseman, Prather played six years of baseball for the Yellow Jackets.
Cameron Thames
The son of Cameron and Mia Thames, Sam plans to attend college and major in electrical engineering. A hard-working left fielder, Thames was a member of the Enterprise baseball team for six years.
