Election Commission qualifying deadline is June 1

Lincoln County residents interested in running for the office of Lincoln County Election Commissioner should be aware the deadline to submit a statement of intent and qualifying signatures is 5 p.m. June 1. Forms are available online at golincolnms.com or sos.ms.gov, or physical copies can be picked up from the Lincoln County Circuit Clerk’s office.

All five election commissioner seats in the county are open for election. The election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The election commissioners are responsible for conducting all general and special elections within the county. Wen contracted, the Commission assists the Republican and Democratic parties with primary elections. The Commission is responsible for ensuring that all elections are conducted fairly, honestly and legally in all areas of the laws of Mississippi.

The commissioners work as a team to ensure the voter rolls for Lincoln County are as clean as possible by removing those voters who have moved or died. Members of the Commission are elected officials serving four-year terms, with no limits to the number of terms that can be served.

Commissioners must be qualified electors in Lincoln County and residents of the Supervisor District in which they are candidates. They are mandatorily required to attend annual certification training conducted by the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office.

In this election, commissioners elected to districts 1, 3 and 5 will serve four-year terms. Commissioners elected to districts 2 and 4 will serve three-year terms.
