The city of Wesson has found a Founder’s Day queen in Kayla Barfield.

Barfield, a rising senior at Wesson Attendance Center, has been chosen to be the 2020-2021 Founder’s Day queen.

“Being selected is an incredible honor. The town of Wesson has always been so welcoming and is where I have made many lifelong friends. Wesson has given so much to me, and being selected provides me an opportunity to give back to my community,” said Barfield.

Barfield is active in both her school and community. At WAC, she has been a member of student council, beta club, yearbook staff, and first priority. Barfield has also been a cheerleader, baseball team statistician and Nena Smith dancer.

In her community, Barfield volunteers with Brookhaven Animal Rescue League, Socks for Heroes and Stronghope Baptist Church.

After graduation Barfield plans to attend Copiah-Lincoln Community College and then The University of Southern Mississippi after that to major in Speech Pathology.

Because of COVID-19, Wesson was unable to have a Founder’s Day event. Despite that, the committee still accepted applications for a Founder’s Day Queen.

Barfield will still have a chance to act out her duties as queen once restrictions due to COVID-19 lighten. This will include attending ribbon cuttings, chamber banquets and other events.
