(AP) — Two people have survived a crash after the car they were in went down a 35-foot (10.6 meter) embankment early Wednesday in Mississippi.
The crash happened about 4 a.m. in Harrison County. Investigators said the vehicle left Interstate 49 at an intersection and traveled down an embankment, crashing into several trees, media outlets reported.
The accident shut down the highway’s southbound lanes for almost two hours while fire crews rescued the driver and a passenger, Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said. It’s unclear how severe the victims’ injuries are but they were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
