Five men have been involved in a late-night shooting in Brookhaven that has led to one arrest and a search for another suspect.

A call came in to 911 just after 10 p.m. Wednesday that someone had been shot on the 1400 block of North Jackson Street, and officers responded.

Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins said Joey Jermaine Quarles was shot twice in the chest area. He was alert and talking when taken into surgery at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Collins had no update on his condition.

Jonah Hill was shot in the lower left leg and Javian Mackabee was grazed on his lower leg. Both were treated and released, said Collins.

Hakeem Trimel was shot in the right thigh below the gluteus maximus. Trimel was placed under arrest for aggravated assault against Quarles.

A fifth man, Lorenzo Darnell Smith Jr., was shot in one hand and is being sought by police.  Collins said a warrant has been issued for his arrest for aggravated assault.

“His family has been working with us to get him to turn himself in,” Collins said of Smith. “We’re trying to bring this to a peaceful end.”
