Bogue Chitto man dies in boating accident
A Bogue Chitto woman was rescued and her husband found dead after a boating accident in Louisiana.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating the boating fatality that occurred over the holiday weekend.
Agents were notified around 6 p.m. July 4 of a stranded woman on the banks of the Mississippi River near St. Joseph, Louisiana. She was rescued nearly an hour later.
On Sunday, agents recovered the body of Alan K. Wallace, 62, at 11:30 a.m. from the Mississippi River. The woman who was rescued was later identified as Wallace’s wife Missy.
The couple had been traveling upstream in the river when the boat made a strong turn, ejecting the two into the water. She was able to make it to the banks and alert a nearby boater, but he never made it to the bank. According to the LDWF, neither person was wearing a personal flotation device.
Their boat was recovered a few miles upstream.
