Splash Dash 5K and kids run are Saturday

The fourth annual Splash Dash 5K and 1-mile kids run will be Saturday morning.

Runners will be happy to hear of the return of the Splash Dash and kids run in downtown Brookhaven. Packet pickup will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end at 7:30 a.m., with the race starting at 8 a.m.

The races, hosted by Defining Moment Events, will take place downtown beginning in front of the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. Participants who finish the race will receive a finisher medal and a T-shirt. Awards will be given to the overall male and female, and to the top three participants in each age group.

Each race in the Ole Brook Run series has a virtual option, but runners must register as a virtual participant. The races physically only allow up to 200 participants.

The registration fee covers the runner’s T-shirt, medal and other event expenses. All registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Walkers are welcome, but participants need to be sure to register in the walking division of the race. Each race has a walking division except for the 10K.

Strollers are allowed, but runners are asked to be mindful and use caution. Pets are not allowed. Headphones are allowed, but runners are asked to stay aware of their surroundings.

Runners must be present to receive any awards given. Awards will not be mailed.

This race is number three of five in the 2020 Ole Brook Run Series and will include a school supply drive to help children in need. There will be water stations and splash zones set up along the course of the race, with the end of the race having a huge soak zone.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, precautions are being taken. Masks are encouraged to be worn before and after the race, but runners are not required to run in masks.

There will be no registration available the day of the race in order to adhere to social distancing. Online registration will close today at 10 p.m.
