An 11-year-old boy will run 1 mile tonight in honor of a fallen Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputy, and he asks others to join him.

Zechariah Cartledge, a Florida resident, will run at 6:30 p.m. CST in honor of LCSO Corrections Officer Marshall Lee “Bem” London Jr., who died May 18 after contracting COVID-19 while on duty.

Cartledge founded Running 4 Heroes when he was 10 years old, and runs one mile for every first responder who makes the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

“Donations received go towards purchasing American flags, which Zechariah runs with,” reads a statement on Running4Heroes.org. “He then presents that specific flag he ran with to the specific first responder family … he ran for.”

The Daily Leader was notified this morning of Cartledge’s intent to run in honor of London.

“We encourage citizens and agencies from across the nation (to join Zechariah) tonight in a 1-mile walk or run … to help honor this fallen hero,” the notice read. “Please be sure to adhere to local and federal government regulations regarding social distancing.”

The run for London will be Cartledge’s 559th mile.
