A Brookhaven realty group will host its first annual breast cancer awareness event.

A Southern Heritage Realty Inc. will serve its community by hosting its first annual “Spread the Hope” event to raise awareness for breast cancer. The event will take place Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at their office at 119 Oak St.

“We just wanted to give back to our community,” realtor Nicole Newell said.

The realty group will sell t-shirts and raffle tickets with multiple chances to win prizes. All of the proceeds will be donated so local men and woman can receive mammograms.

Available in sizes youth extra small to adult 4X, t-shirts will be $20 with free refreshments for the event. Refreshments will be $2 each if participants do not want to purchase a t-shirt. Raffle tickets are $10 each, and tickets will be on sale through the end of October.

The final drawing for the raffle will be Oct. 30. Tickets can be purchased at A Southern Heritage Realty, Castles, Mint or The Honey Pot. T-shirts can be ordered at A Southern Heritage Realty.

Besides giving back to the community, Newell said breast cancer is a personal issue within her office.

“We also have a breast cancer survivor in our office,” Newell said. “Our secretary is in remission.”

Newell hopes the community can learn more about why it’s important to be checked though attending this event.

“Our reason for raising the money is that we wanted women and men in our community to be able to receive a free mammogram and bring awareness about how important it is to get checked,” Newell said.

A representative from King’s Daughters Medical Center will be there to answer questions for anyone who wants to learn more about getting a mammogram.
