Brookhaven Fire Department Station No. 2 officially opened with a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning.
Although the station built in the former Boling-Hoskins Motors location has already served as home to fire fighters for the majority of the year, an official opening ceremony was postponed due to restrictions from the coronavirus.
Brookhaven Mayor Joe Cox led in a ceremony at the station at 223 North First St. recognizing BFD Chief Tony Weeks and the fire fighters of the department. City attorney Joe Fernald read a proclamation from the city to the approximately three dozen people in attendance.
The masked and socially-distanced crowd included Rep. Vince Mangold; City Clerk Samantha Melancon; aldermen Fletcher Grice, Jason Snider and Shelley Harrigill; Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce representatives Garrick Combs and Katie Nations; Dungan Engineering employees Forrest Dungan and Ryan Holmes; Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Clifford Galey; and members of the community.
Following the ribbon cutting in front of the station, Chief Weeks gave tours of the facility to interested parties.
