Graveside service for Mrs. Jewel Irene Douglas Smith Meredith is 10:30 am Friday, Dec. 11, at Wellman Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Meredith , 89, of Brookhaven, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 8, 2020, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.

She was born April 13, 1931.

Mrs. Irene was the owner of Judy’s Shoes in Brookhaven since it opened in 1973. She loved her family, her store, flowers and riding her golf cart. She also loved her church family at Wellman Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jewel and Hollis Douglas; husbands, Thomas Harold Smith and Joseph “Jay” Meredith ; sons, Thomas “Tommy” Harold Smith Jr., and Donald Earl Smith; two grandsons, Daniel Lofton and Danny Earl Smith; granddaughter, Hannah Hart Smith; one great-granddaughter, Emory Rose Smith; and brother, Bobby Douglas.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Rodney Glenn Smith and wife Rosemary; daughter, Judy Smith Lofton; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith.

She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Earl Douglas and wife, Bettye, Connie Mack Douglas and wife, Charleen, both of Brookhaven; sisters, Libby Holmes, of Madison, and Betty Joyce Byrd and husband, Jerry, and Reba Grace Roberts and husband, Glen, of Brookhaven; six grandchildren, Dusty Smith, Toby Smith, Chad Lofton, Sawyer Smith, Bridgette Wheatly and Jessica Hyde; and 15 great-grandchildren.
