The number of coronavirus cases continues to climb with Christmas only a week away.

On Friday, the Mississippi Department of Health released its latest COVID-19 statistics. In Lincoln County, there were 2,291 total cases and 73 total deaths, along with 166 and 36.

Statewide, there were 2,507 new cases and 34 new deaths, along with 235 current long-term care facility outbreaks.

As of Friday, there were 1,219 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus. Out of that total, 315 patients are in intensive care and 193 patients are on ventilators.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 187,904 total COVID-19 cases and 4,320 deaths.
