Brookhaven fire fighters and police responded just before 5 p.m. Monday to what turned out to be a false alarm.

BFD fire fighter Kelly Porter said the alarm came from Smith Jewelry on East Cherokee Street, but the situation was fine.

“Thankfully, it was a false alarm,” Porter said.

Fire fighters were on the scene less than 10 minutes.
