Baseball is back, or will be soon.

After a year where the COVID-19 pandemic ended or postponed most sports leagues and events, the A. L. Lott Youth Baseball League is making a comeback.

“We are excited to return to some form of normalcy,” said Curtis Oliver, the league’s program director and president. “We pray that the situation with COVID-19 will continue to improve and our kids can return to the baseball diamonds.”

Registration for the 2021 season begins Saturday. Sign-up events will take place at four locations across the city of Brookhaven, on four weekend dates from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The first event is for the Brignall area, at the corner of Brignall and Howard roads on Feb. 6.

The next event is for the Southside area, on Feb. 20, at Bethel Playground.

The third sign-up will be March 6 for the Cloverdale area, at the ball park on Williams Street.

The final registration event will be March 20 at Brookhaven City Park, by the intersection of Hartman and Lipsey streets.

The league provides all necessary equipment and uniforms for registered players. Players are only required to provide their own gloves.

Official ball clinics begin March 8, the week of area schools’ spring break. Additional information on the clinics will be published at a later date.
