MHSAA basketball playoffs delayed

The MHSAA has pushed back the start of its state basketball tournament until Thursday, Feb. 17.

The first-round girls’ game that were supposed to be played on Monday will now be played on Thursday, Feb. 18. The first-round boys’ games that were due to start on Tuesday will now be played on Friday, Feb. 19.

Saturday, Feb. 20, is also an available playing date for teams to wrap up their first-round games if they haven’t still been able to complete them. The second round will take place the following week with games on Monday, Feb. 22 (girls) and Tuesday, Feb. 23 (boys).

The third round will quickly follow with games taking place on Thursday, Feb. 25 (girls) and Friday, Feb. 26 (boys).

The West Lincoln girls have already moved their first-round game to Friday, Feb. 19. The Lady Bears will host Lake High at 5 p.m. in Jack Case Gymnasium.

Other area schools are currently working on finalizing game times and dates for their first-round games and those announcements will be updated as they happen.

Locally, Loyd Star will also host boys’ and girls’ games along with the Bogue Chitto boys. Wesson will travel for first round games (boys and girls) while the Enterprise boys and Bogue Chitto girls are both slated to travel for their first-round matchups.

Brookhaven High is also scheduled to host a home playoff game this week in the 5A girls’ state tournament against Gautier High School.
