Ole Brook Lady Panthers hosting Wayne County tonight in 5A playoffs

For a fifth consecutive season, the Brookhaven High Lady Panthers have reached the MHSAA 5A state quarterfinals, making them one of the final eight teams alive in their classification.

The hope is to now make it to the final four and a semifinal game in the Mississippi Coliseum.

Standing in their way is Wayne County (11-3). The two schools meet tonight at 6 p.m. in Sinclair Gymnasium to see who’ll play in Jackson next week and who’ll have their season ended.

Brookhaven (10-5) went on the road Wednesday and knocked off Natchez High (13-5) by a 50-35 final.
Sophomore Angel Wilkinson led BHS with 19 points in the win over Natchez. It was revenge for Ole Brook as they’d previously lost to Natchez at home during the regular season.

Wayne County upset Hattiesburg High 48-45 in the Hub City Wednesday to earn their quarterfinal spot. In the first round they took care of South Jones 53-28.

In Region 8-5A play during the regular season Wayne County went 6-0 but were upset 63-51 by Pascagoula in the tournament finals.

The winner between Brookhaven and Wayne will meet the winner of Columbus and Holmes County Central in the semis.

The other 5A quarterfinals taking place tonight have Laurel playing Pascagoula and Cleveland Central taking on Neshoba Central.
