COVID update: 2 new deaths in Lincoln County

Two new COVID-related deaths were reported for Lincoln County Saturday in a weekend that saw 43 coronavirus fatalities statewide, and 1,452 new cases Friday-Sunday.

The totals of all Mississippi COVID-19 cases and deaths since February 2020 have reached nearly 295,000 cases — 294,994 — and 6,681 deaths, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Lincoln County has had 3,541 cases and 102 deaths from the novel virus. Counties bordering Lincoln have had:

  • Amite County — 1,115 cases and 33 deaths
  • Copiah County — 2,778 cases and 57 deaths
  • Franklin County — 761 cases and 19 deaths
  • Jefferson County — 625 cases and 27 deaths
  • Lawrence County — 1,203 cases and 21 deaths
  • Pike County — 3,001 cases and 95 deaths

The United States has had 28,650,925 positive cases of the virus reported as of Sunday. Of these, 514,129 have died. California remains the state with both the highest number of cases and deaths, at 3.57 million and 52,447, respectively. Vermont remains the state with both the lowest number of cases and related deaths — 15,298 cases and 204 fatalities. Of all U.S. possessions, American Samoa has reported only four cases and no related deaths since February 2020. No official information was available on total recoveries in the nation.

Worldwide, more than 114 million cases and 2.53 million deaths have been reported to date, and more than 64.5 million have recovered from the virus.
