Another coronavirus-related death has been reported for Lincoln County, having occurred in the one-month range of Feb. 3-March 2. Eight new positive cases were reported for the county.

Lincoln County has now had 3,552 cases and 104 COVID-related fatalities since February 2020.

Nineteen deaths were reported statewide and 380 additional positive COVID-19 tests, according to information reported to the Mississippi State Department of Health as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The state has recorded 295,675 positive cases — 183,292 confirmed and 112,383 probable — and 6,743 deaths — 4,705 confirmed and 2,038 probable.

Confirmed cases and deaths are generally determined by positive PCR tests, which detect the presence of ongoing coronavirus infection.

Probable cases are those who test positive by other testing methods such as antibody or antigen, and have recent symptoms consistent with COVID-19, indicating a recent infection.

Probable deaths are those individuals with a designation of COVID-19 as a cause of death on the death certificate, but where no confirmatory testing was performed.

On March 1, 421 patients were hospitalized statewide with confirmed coronavirus infections and 36 were hospitalized with suspected infections. There were 109 virus patients in intensive care units and 69 on ventilators.

The state presumes 278,162 individuals have recovered from the virus as of March 1.
