Eleven new coronavirus-related fatalities were reported to the Mississippi State Department of Health as of 3 p.m. Tuesday; 437 positive test results were also reported.

Lincoln County reported 36 new cases, raising its total to 3,680, with the death toll remaining steady at 104.

The state has recorded 298,445 positive cases over the past year and 6,845 related deaths. More than 184,600 cases have been confirmed and 4,759 deaths have been confirmed.

Updated hospitalization data was released Wednesday, revealing numbers from Feb. 16 through March 8. Over the three-week period, hospitalizations of patients with confirmed infections has gradually dropped from 559 to 313. COVID patients in intensive care units has dropped from 168 to 94, and those patients requiring ventilators have gone from 91 to 53. Patients admitted to hospitals with suspected infections have increased, however, rising from 28 up as high as 79 on March 4-6, before dropping again to 50.

 

Ongoing immunizations

MSDH will continue to offer COVID-19 vaccination appointments at drive through sites based on the number of vaccines allocated to the state weekly by the federal government. This number varies, impacting appointment availability. Second doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are currently available.

Those eligible for immunizations at this time are all healthcare workers, people age 50 and older, persons ages 18-49 with underlying medical conditions, all school/childcare workers and all first responders.
