Brookhaven High product and current Ole Miss Rebel Snudda Collins was recently named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team for women’s basketball.

Collins scored 23 points in her Oxford debut against McNeese State in the season opener. She picked up SEC Freshman of the Week honors after that performance and then garnered the award again later in the season.

Ole Brook fans that watched her become an All-State player in Sinclair Gymnasium know that shooting the ball from deep is an area where Collins excels.
She led Ole Miss with a 42.5 shooting percent from the 3-point line this season and made 1.9 threes per game — better than any other SEC freshman.

In the regular season, Collins averaged 7.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Ole Miss (11-11) beat No. 13 Arkansas 69-60 in their SEC Tournament opener last week before losing 77-72 to No. 14 Tennessee in the quarterfinals.

In their regular season finale, Ole Miss overcame a nine-point first quarter deficit to knock off No. 17 Kentucky 73-69 in Lexington. Collins scored 12 points in 31 minutes that night as she finished 4-of-7 from the 3-point line that night.

Last year as a senior at Brookhaven High, Collins averaged 18.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for coach Preston Wilson. She was a repeat selection as The Daily Leader All-Area MVP, taking the award as both a junior and senior.

Now the Rebels must wait until Selection Monday, March 15, to find out if they’ll make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
