Brookhaven Fire fighters are monitoring a natural gas leak on South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

A crew installing fiber optic cable underground inadvertently struck and damaged a natural gas line about 10 a.m. Monday, resulting in the leak. A foreman with SDT telecom services called 911 and BFD responded.

“We advise people to stay off MLK between Chickasaw and Monticello until the line can be repaired,” BFD Shift Capt. Shane Hannah said.
