Lincoln County is under an elevated threat of severe weather today.
The county’s Emergency Management Director Clifford Galey asks residents to remain aware of the weather conditions in order to prepare and react accordingly.
The National Weather Service has forecast wind gusts up to 40-50 mph through about 2 p.m., with 70-100% chance of rain throughout the day. Some downed trees and powerlines are possible and travel may be difficult for high-profile vehicles.
There is a marginal risk of isolated severe storms across Southwest Mississippi, including hail up to quarter size. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out, according to NWS.
A high of 67 degrees today is expected to drop slightly to a low of 59, with 30% chance of showers and patchy fog overnight.
Severe storms also pose a marginal risk for the area Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, when the risk elevates to enhanced.
Thursday’s enhanced risk means severe storms are likely, as well as tornadoes — some of which could be strong — damaging winds up to 70 mph and large hail up to golf ball size.
