Wednesday will be mostly cloudy across Southwest Mississippi with a high of 77 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

As a warm front moves through the area late Wednesday afternoon and evening, residents should expect severe storms capable of producing quarter-sized hail, damaging winds and possibly a tornado. Much of the severe weather is expected to move across northern Mississippi, however, around midnight.

Lincoln County is under a marginal risk of impact from these storms from about 3 p.m. until 1 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday, the southern half of Lincoln County is under a slight risk of significant severe weather and the northern half is under an enhanced risk, from noon until about 7 p.m. Areas under a slight risk can expect possible tornadoes, damaging winds up to 60-70 mph and hail quarter to golf ball size. Areas under an enhanced risk may experience strong tornadoes and stronger winds, with large hail up to golf ball size.

The southeast portion of Lincoln County is also likely to experience flash flooding from Wednesday evening through Thursday due to a possible 2-4 inches of additional rain in a short amount of time. The remainder of the county is under a limited threat of flooding, though it is possible.

Motorists are encouraged not to drive into standing or moving water, as depth can be misperceived and moving water can be stronger than expected.
