Ole Brook takes both team titles in their track invitational

Brookhaven High swept top honors in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions Friday at their annual invitational track meet.

Teams from McComb, Tylertown, Warren Central, Heidelberg and North Pike also competed in the meet.

The Brookhaven track team is coached by Tonya Johns, Darien Dorsey, Shannon Knott and Sandra Banks.

BHS will compete in the Pearl Invitation this week on Thursday, April 1. They’ll then host the 5-5A division meet on Monday, April 5, at King Field. The Region 3-5A meet will be held at Hughes Field in Jackson on April 17.

Hattiesburg High is hosting the south state on Saturday, April 24. The 5A state meet will run on April 30 at Pearl High.

First place boys’ finishers for BHS at their invitational included Xavier Gayten (100-meter), Grayson Childress (800-meter, 3200-meter), Jake Thompson (1600-meter), Quintaye Bates (triple jump) and Kobe Jacobs (discus).

The Panthers also won the 4×800-meter relay.

First place winners for the girls’ team were Kyja Willis (200-meter), Ramie Stovall (1600-meter), Amy Mabile (3200-meter) and Ah’Menya Rancifer (shot put). The BHS girls also won relays in 4×200-meter, 4×400-meter and 4×400-meter races.

Second place finishers for the Panthers in the boys’ events were Kenan Quinn (400-meter), Sam Arnold (1600-meter), and Thompson (3200-meter). Third place winners were Jacquez Smith (400-meter), Trey Knott (1600-meter, 3200-meter), Marvis McDaniel (discus), Brodie Ezell (shot put), Thompson (800-meter) and Bates (high jump, long jump.)

Ole Brook also finished third in the 4×100-relay and the 4×200 relay. They also were second in the 4×400 relay as well.

Stovall finished second for the BHS girls in the 800-meter race while her teammate Ellie Slay finished in third. Slay also finished third in the 1600-meter run. Merritt Wolfe finished as runner up in the 3200-meter race for BHS.

Kaniya McDaniel was the second-place finisher in the 100-meter hurdle race for BHS while Jakira Cook came in second in the 300-meter hurdle. Angel Wilkinson came in third in the high jump and Rancifer was second in the discus. De’Naejah Williams finished as runner-up in the shot put.
