Severe weather expected across area today

Lincoln County is under a moderate risk of severe weather today, with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 a.m.

The mostly cloudy day, with a high near 83, could see widespread damaging winds up to 80 mph, large hail up to baseball size and possible tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson. Multiple rounds of severe weather are expected to extend into the nighttime hours, exiting the area by early Saturday.

“This could be a very serious situation. Please be weather aware today and tonight,” said Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Clifford Galey.

Chance of rain increases to 90% for Friday night with 1-2 inches possible.

Saturday is expected to see some showers or thunderstorms across the morning, decreasing from 1-4 p.m. then becoming mostly sunny with a high near 80. Chance of rain is 50%.

Mostly clear to sunny skies are expected Saturday night through Monday, with calm winds, highs in the upper 70s and lows in the low- to mid-50s.
