One new death was reported for Lincoln County in the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Lincoln County has reported 3,871 cases and 109 deaths since the pandemic began more than one year ago.

Twenty-three deaths ad 317 new positive test results statewide were reported as of 3 p.m. Monday, the most recent reports. The state has now had 307,836 cases and 7,119 deaths related to the novel virus.

Of the total cases, 188,507 are confirmed and 119,329 are probable. Of the deaths, 4,919 are confirmed and 2,200 are probable. Confirmed cases and deaths are generally determined by positive PCR tests, which detect the presence of ongoing coronavirus infection.

Probable cases are those who test positive by other testing methods such as antibody or antigen, and have recent symptoms consistent with COVID-19, indicating a recent infection.

Probable deaths are those individuals with a designation of COVID-19 as a cause of death on the death certificate, but where no confirmatory testing was performed.

On Tuesday, 173 people were hospitalized across the state with confirmed infections and 33 additional people were in hospitals with suspected infections. Fifty-six were in intensive care units and 23 were on ventilators.

King’s Daughters Medical Center had four confirmed COVID patients, two of whom were in intensive care beds.

The majority of cases in Mississippi have been among people age 25-39 and age 50-64. The majority of deaths have occurred in ages 50 and above. The least number of both cases and deaths have occurred in those age 4 and younger.

Of the 7,119 deaths, more than 4,000 were in those with underlying conditions, including hypertension, cardiovascular disease or diabetes.
