Lincoln County boy gets escort home

Sirens wailed and bright lights flashed, horns honked and bystanders cheered as Brookhaven first-grader Myles Teaster was escorted home Thursday afternoon.

He smiled and waved at family and friends on the side of Hwy. 84 as the long procession moved from Easthaven Baptist Church eastward along the highway to turn south on Hog Chain Drive toward his home.

Teaster was critically injured in an accident on April 3 involving a fall and a lawnmower.

“While we are devastated that he lost his leg, we are praising the Lord for sparing his life,” his mother Brittany Teaster posted on Facebook that evening. After much surgery and therapy at Children’s of Mississippi hospital, he was able to go home Thursday to continue his recovery there.

Homemade signs along the roadway read “Welcome home, Myles,” “We love you, Myles” and “Pray for Myles.” The front of his home was also decorated with welcome signs, streamers and balloons.

Not long after his arrival at home, his mother posted another photo on her social media, showing Myles covered in a blanket on the couch and other children gathered around him.

“There’s no place like home,” she wrote. “All smiles surrounded by his siblings and cousins … the happiest chatter and giggles you have ever heard. #thankful.”
