One additional COVID-19 related death has been reported for Lincoln County, bringing the death toll to 110.

There have been 3,923 positive test cases of the coronavirus in the county since the pandemic began just over one year ago.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 172 new positive test results as of 3 p.m. Monday, the most recent data, and 10 additional deaths. Though one death was reported for Choctaw County on April 25, the other nine — including the one in Lincoln County — were identified from death certificate reports ranging from Dec. 2, 2020, to April 20, 2021. Two deaths each were identified for Jones and Lauderdale counties, and one each for Lincoln, Bolivar, Clarke, Madison and Rankin.

MSDH has recorded 311,159 total cases for the state — 190,253 confirmed and 120,906 probable. There have been 7,188 total fatalities related to the novel virus — 4,961 confirmed and 2,227 probable.

Confirmed cases and deaths are generally determined by positive PCR tests, which detect the presence of ongoing coronavirus infection.

Probable cases are those who test positive by other testing methods such as antibody or antigen, and have recent symptoms consistent with COVID-19, indicating a recent infection.

Probable deaths are those individuals with a designation of COVID-19 as a cause of death on the death certificate, but where no confirmatory testing was performed.

For the counties bordering Lincoln County:

• Amite County — 1,222 cases and 41 deaths.

• Copiah County — 2,954 cases and 65 deaths.

• Franklin County — 831 cases and 23 deaths.

• Jefferson County — 649 cases and 28 deaths.

• Lawrence County — 1,279 cases and 23 deaths.

• Pike County — 3,260 cases and 105 deaths.

• Walthall County — 1,327 cases and 44 deaths.

Counties with the greatest number of positive cases over the course of the pandemic are DeSoto (21,238 cases, 255 deaths), Hinds (20,157 cases, 413 deaths), Harrison (17,682 cases, 306 deaths), Rankin (13,476 cases, 278 deaths), Jackson (13,329 cases, 245 deaths) and Madison (10,010 cases, 215 deaths).

Counties with the least number of positive cases are Issaquena (168 cases, six deaths) and Sharkey (500 cases, 17 deaths). Though Quitman County has had more cases, with 794, it has only recorded 16 deaths.

On Monday, 170 people were hospitalized statewide with confirmed COVID-19 infections. Forty-six people were in intensive care units and 24 were on ventilators. An additional 34 people were hospitalized with suspected infections.

MSDH presumes 300,323 previously infected individuals have recovered from the coronavirus.
