Select polling places are now open for Brookhaven City Party Primary Runoff elections.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. Any voter in line to vote at 7 p.m. is entitled to cast a ballot.

Brookhaven runoffs are in Wards 1, 3 and 4. In Ward 1, Jason Dixon and James Magee Jr. are the choices on the Democratic Party ticket. Whichever person wins the election today will be the ward’s next alderman. Ward 1 voting will take place at the Bi-Centennial Building, 200 Main St.

In Ward 3, Rev. Charles J. Caston Sr. and Roy L. Smith are the choices on the Democratic Party ticket. Whoever wins the runoff will advance to the General Election June 8 to face Republican opponent Troy Douglas. Ward 3 voting will take place at the Lincoln County Courthouse (Lincoln County/Brookhaven Governmental Complex), 301 South First St., in the City Board Room.

In Ward 4, Barbara Nell Davis and Jeff Henning are the choices on the Republican Party ticket. Whichever person wins the runoff today will be the ward’s next alderman. Ward 4 voting will take place in the Brookhaven Elementary School Auditorium, 300 South Church St.

Crossover voting is not permitted in this election, meaning voters who cast a ballot in one political party’s Primary Election April 6 cannot legally cast a ballot in a different political party’s runoff election today, April 27. Voters who did not vote in the primary, however, are still eligible to vote in the runoff.

Results of the Primary Runoff Election will be posted online as soon as they are available.

Reminders

• All main-in absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than today, April 27, and received by the Brookhaven City Clerk’s Office within five business days of today.
• Photo ID is required in order to vote. A voter without acceptable photo identification may cast an affidavit ballot. This ballot may be counted if the voter provides an acceptable form of photo ID to the City Clerk’s Office within five business days of the election.
• No candidate may campaign within 150 feet of the entrance to any polling place, unless it is on private property.
• No one is allowed to loiter within 30 feet of any entrance to any polling place. Only election officials, authorized poll watchers or persons waiting to vote are permitted.
• Voters may not take photos of their marked ballot.
• Voters are encouraged to practice good hygiene and follow CDC guidelines at the polls.
