Flash flooding likely in some areas today

Lincoln County and surrounding areas are expected to receive up to two inches of rain throughout the day today as showers and thunderstorms move through the region.

Chance of precipitation is 80% with a high near 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

An elevated threat of flash flooding is predicted, with some roads likely to flood or be closed due to accumulations of two to three inches of rain in a less than three-hour period.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue until the early Wednesday morning hours — a 90% chance — as temps drop slightly near 65. Between three-quarters and one inch of rain is possible.

Rains may stop around 4 a.m. Wednesday, but are expected to pick up again after 7 a.m. with a possible thunderstorm, as well. Chance of rain is 80%, with 1/10 to a quarter of an inch expected. Higher amounts may fall during thunderstorms.

Forecast of rain drops to 40% Wednesday night and 20% on Thursday until about 1 p.m.
