COVID update: State reports 608 ‘new’ cases

Lincoln County has reported one new COVID death as the state health department reported 11 new deaths and 608 “new” positive test results.

Six of the fatalities, including the one in Lincoln County, occurred May 14-17, across six counties. Five occurred March 19-May 10, identified from death certificate reports.

The 608 “new” cases includes 202 new reports of positive test results as of 3 p.m. Monday, and 406 cases from Aug. 31, 2020, through May 13, 2021, newly identified from recent investigations, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.

There have now been 315,634 cases in the state and 7,268 deaths; 305,388 are presumed recovered from infection.

Lincoln County has recorded 3,980 cases and 111 deaths to date.

Monday, 174 patients were hospitalized statewide with confirmed infections and 28 with suspected infections. Thirty-three were on ventilators and 63 were in intensive care units.
