Tornado warning until 4 p.m. in Lawrence County

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Tornado Warning for northeastern Lawrence County, southwestern Simpson County and northwestern Jefferson Davis County until 4 p.m.

At 3:19 p.mm., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Hebron, 14 miles south of Pinola, moving northwest at 20 mph.

Radar indicated rotation of a tornado. Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, mobile homes and trees is likely.

The storm is expected to be near Shivers at 3:40 p.m., Pinola at 3:55 p.m. New Hebron will also be impacted.

NWS advises taking cover immediately. Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
