Dozens gathered at the Lincoln County War Memorial Monday morning in observance of Memorial Day, and to honor the memory of area service men and women who died in service to the United States.

“These men and women sacrificed everything they had including their lives for us,” said VFW 2618 Post Commander Greg Marlow. “We must commit ourselves to remind future generations of what they did.”

Just after Post Quartermaster Tommy Allison read the names of all 98 Lincoln County military personnel listed on the Memorial, a wreath was placed at the monument and TAPS was played as attendees stood at attention and saluted the flag flying at half mast.

“It speaks well of our community that you would take time to be here, regardless of any risk, to honor the memory of those who served,” past VFW District 3 Commander Ken Powell said, “to honor the lives they lived and their sacrifice.”
