The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation recently accepted a $11,500 donation from Georgia-Pacific Monticello in support of Co-Lin’s engineering lab and underwater robotics program.

The underwater robotics program promotes science and environmental education. Students in the program design and build underwater robotic vehicles and demonstrate them in national and international competitions.

“We are very excited about Georgia-Pacific’s continued support of Co-Lin’s underwater robotics program and engineering design lab. Our students have benefited greatly from the hands-on skills they are gaining from both these programs,” said Kevin McKone, physics instructor and chair of the science division at Co-Lin. He is also the sponsor of the robotics team.

The engineering lab will foster students’ exploration into all engineering disciplines, with the near-term objective of promoting student involvement in local industry and technical organizations, such as the Mississippi Engineering Society.
