A new, free medical clinic will open soon in Brookhaven.
The clinic — operated by St. Andrew’s Mission Inc., a non-profit headquartered in McComb — plans to open Monday, Aug. 2, with reception staff in the office, located at 221 North Whitworth Ave.
The clinic’s tentative schedule is 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, though this may change to accommodate the schedules of volunteering physicians, according to St. Andrew’s marketing coordinator Angie Saldana.
As of 2019, 19% of Mississippians had no health insurance. Nearly 4,000 people in Lincoln County had none, according to St. Andrew’s.
The ministry will provide quality health care to uninsured persons in a Christian environment, assistance with medication costs, reduced fees for laboratory tests, and care for acute and chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension. General medical care and eye exams will also be available.
The clinic will see patients by appointment only — no walk-ins will be taken. Potential patients must have no form of health insurance, but should bring a valid photo ID and a list of their medications.
“Our goal is to increase access to quality care for those most in need of our community,” said a release from the mission. “We have operated a free medical clinic in McComb for almost 15 years.”
The mission also has a food pantry, soup kitchen and activity center in McComb, and operates St. Andrew’s Thrift Store on East Monticello Street in Brookhaven.
