A group of veterans wants to flag as many yards in the area as possible.

Brookhaven Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cpt. Danny D. Entrican Post 2618, has begun its annual fund raising effort of placing American flags in the yards of friends, neighbors or a business — anyone a sponsor wants “flagged.”

For a donation of $30 to VFW, a 12 American flags and a sign reading “I have been ‘Flagged’ for our Veterans” will be placed in a yard of the sponsor’s choosing for 48 hours. The person who has been flagged can make a $5 donation to find out who flagged them.

“The funds raised by this promotion help support the VFW’s Wreaths Across America and our Veterans & Military Support Programs,” said Post 2618 Senior Vice Commander Greg Marlow. “It also instills Americanism and patriotism among the participants.”
