Brookhaven Little Theatre will kick off its 2021-2022 season with “Anne of Green Gables.”
Live shows will be Thursday, Sept. 30, through Sunday, Oct. 3, with 7:30 p.m. shows Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday.
Auditions for the 12-15 member cast will be Sunday, Aug. 22, 2-5 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 23, 6-9 p.m. Pre-registration is preferred at haventheatre.org, but last-minute walk-ins will not be turned away, BLT board president Steven McMorris said. Anyone age 10 and up may audition. Hopeful actors should prepare a short monologue and bring a headshot photo and brief bio to the audition.
“We have actually had requests for this show and we always try to do at least one drama,” McMorris said. “This is a timeless literary story and many people have read the books. We just wanted to see that story come to the stage.”
The play will be directed by Chris Roebuck. Roebuck has done a lot of work with New Stage Theatre in Jackson and has helped with previous BLT shows.
“The script calls for a cast of about 12 to 15,” McMorris said. “There may be some areas where we can split some roles up and add a few extras, but it will probably be around that many.”
Two more shows are planned for the theater season, plus kids and teens summer camps, and other events in addition to the regular season, McMorris said, all organized by the volunteer-led board.
“We are hosting our annual membership meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30, to conduct the annual business of the members, but the meeting is open to anyone,” McMorris said. “The season’s other shows will be announced that night.”
“We have an exciting season planned.”
