Enterprise blows out Hillcrest Christian on the road

The Enterprise Yellow Jackets won’t play this upcoming Friday. They were scheduled to face Ethel, but a COVID-19 shutdown in that program scratched the game.

That’s why the game against Hillcrest Christian School was so big for third year coach Trey Woodard and his team.

Woodard has a young group of Jackets and he desperately wanted to get them some game experience. And a win wouldn’t be too bad either.

It was mission accomplished in south Jackson for Enterprise in that regard Friday night. Hillcrest led 13-12 at halftime before Woodard’s crew turned it on in the second half to win 42-20.

“We were just making young mistakes in the first half,” said Woodard. “We’re so young, but the guys love to play the game and they’re a coachable group. We cleaned up what was wrong and played much better in the second half.”

Woodard says senior leaders like Jonas Caldwell, Seth Mitchell and Matthew Burns set the tone in the second half.

“A lot of kids grew up and played well for us in the second half,” said Woodard. “Our older guys were the examples, and the rest followed their lead.”

With the impending tropical weather, Woodard won’t look to fill the hole in his schedule. EAC will take the week off and try to improve via practice.

“We’ve got to get in better shape and study the film from tonight to see where we need to improve,” said Woodard. “We’ll do that and start preparing for Bogue Chitto when the time comes.”
