Brookhaven Academy will reopen Tuesday but public schools in Brookhaven and Lincoln County will remain closed.

The schools closed Monday in anticipation of inclement weather from Hurricane Ida. They will not reopen Tuesday due to issues with electrical power and possible hazardous road conditions.

“Due to power outages at two of our campuses and within our area, the Brookhaven School District will remain closed tomorrow August 31st,” Superintendent Dr. Rod Henderson said. “We will provide updates regarding district operations throughout the day tomorrow.”

“Power and road conditions continue to be an issue. Lincoln County Schools will remain closed on Tuesday (8/31/2021),” Superintendent Dr. David Martin said via a statement from his office.

“Due to continued power outages across the county as a result of Hurricane Ida, Lawrence County School District will cancel school on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. No on-site or virtual instruction will take place, and no employees should report to their sites,” Family and Community Engagement Specialist Kelsey Wells Lambert said in a statement Monday evening.
All school announcements also encouraged students and families to stay safe in the aftermath of the storm.

Brookhaven Academy will reopen for classes.

“School will be open tomorrow on a regular schedule,” said Headmaster Jason Case.
