All area schools are back in session Wednesday.
Brookhaven Public School District, Lincoln County School District, Lawrence County School District, Copiah County School District and Copiah-Lincoln Community College will all resume classes Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Campuses were closed Monday and Tuesday due to power outages, blocked roads or other potentially hazardous situations on campuses or for students in their neighborhoods after Hurricane Ida struck the area Sunday night and Monday morning.
Brookhaven Academy resumed classes Tuesday.
“Power has been restored to all school sites, and on-site and virtual instruction will resume as before Hurricane Ida,” read a release from Lawrence County School District.
“All Brookhaven Schools will be open [Sept. 1]. High School students will continue to follow the hybrid schedule for the rest of the week,” Superintendent Dr. Rod Henderson said in a statement on the district’s website.
“At this time we are planning on all Lincoln County Schools to return tomorrow (Wednesday 9/1). We appreciate all the hard work by our utility companies and supervisors to get everything back open. Each school will return under the same schedule as last week (traditional, hybrid, or select hybrid – they will share schedules individually),” Superintendent Dr. David Martin said via statement. “We hope everyone stays safe and we look forward to seeing you back on campus.”
