The state health department has reported 2,594 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 65 deaths. Twenty-six of the cases and two of the newly-reported deaths occurred in Lincoln County. The deaths were identified from death certificate reports Sept. 1-15. Lincoln has reported 5,217 cases and 129 related deaths to date.

No cases were in ages 4 and under, which saw 31 cases in August. Sixty-eight percent of cases in the first week of September were in people who identified their race as white, and 24% in those who identified their race as black. The remaining 8% were identified as “other” or unknown.
