Here’s a look at how area teams faired in high school football action Friday night.

 

Bogue Chitto 13, Puckett 7

Once again Bogue Chitto proved that this bunch of Bobcats can win a close game. A week after getting a 7-0 victory over Mize on their home field, Bogue Chitto went to Puckett and won for the first time since 1999.

Starting quarterback Colton Frith was still out after being injured last week, but freshman signal caller Jax Leggett took over to help lead the team to victory. Coach Gareth Sartin’s squad is now 4-1 and will begin their Region 7-2A slate with a trip next week to West Lincoln.

Brookhaven Academy 51, Columbia Academy 28

Brookhaven Academy was never threatened Friday in moving their record to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in MAIS District 4-4A play with a big win at Columbia Academy.

Coach Anthony Hart’s Cougars led 30-6 at halftime and 51-12 after three quarters. BA will entertain Hillcrest Christian next week for homecoming on R.M. “Red” Stuard Field.

 

West Jones 26, Brookhaven High 0

The defending 5A state champion West Jones Mustangs led 23-0 after one quarter in Soso Friday night. The win was the first Region 3-5A game for both teams. Brookhaven High (1-4) will host 4A Lanier next week in their final non-region game of the season.

Mize 26, Wesson 18

After two forfeits and a 7-0 loss last week at Bogue Chitto — the Mize Bulldogs got their first win of the season Friday in Smith County over visiting Wesson.

The Cobras (2-3) and coach Jeremy Loy are back home on Friday hosting the Hazlehurst Indians in the Region 6-3A opener for both schools.

 

Taylorsville 41, Enterprise 30

The Yellow Jackets never stopped swinging in a game that went over 3 hours Friday at Enterprise. The game was the first Region 4-1A game for both schools.

Taylorsville led 34-8 at halftime and 41-16 after three quarters. Coach Trey Woodard’s Enterprise team moves to 2-3 on the season and will play at Bays Springs next week for another region test.

 

Tylertown 26, Lawrence County 14

A close first half homecoming matchup in Monticello ended up going in favor of the visiting Chiefs from Tylertown. The game was knotted 14-14 at halftime as two second half scores by THS proved to be the difference.

Lawrence County, under the direction of coach Jesse Anderson, are 3-2 on the year. They’ll begin Region 7-4A action next week with a trip to Brooklyn to play Forrest County AHS.
