COVID-19 update: No new cases, deaths in Lincoln County

Lincoln County reported no new COVID-19 positive test results or deaths Wednesday. The county has had 5,324 cases and 133 deaths to date.

An additional 1,098 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi were reported Wednesday morning by the State Department of Health.

Fifty deaths were also reported — 28 from Aug. 26 to Sept. 28, and 22 identified from death certificate reports May 25-Sept. 24. Of the 28 more recent deaths reported, Lawrence and Walthall counties each reported one.

The state’s total number of cases now is 487,293 and 9,588 related deaths. Among cases and deaths already reported, MSDH has identified five additional cases in long-term care facilities and two additional deaths. There are 85 ongoing outbreaks in LTC facilities.

Of totals reported Aug. 26-Sept. 27, 97% of positive cases, 86% of deaths and 88% of hospitalizations were in the unvaccinated, according to MSDH data.

To date, Harrison County has reported the highest volume of cases — 33,418 — and Hinds County has reported the most deaths — 593. The top counties by volume of cases and deaths are: Harrison — 33,418 cases; 504 deaths; Hinds — 31,347 cases; 593 deaths; and De Soto — 30,954 cases; 369 deaths.

Nine additional counties have reported more than 10,000 cases each and seven of these have reported more than 200 deaths. They are: Jackson — 23,877 cases; 357 deaths; Rankin — 21,520 cases; 379 deaths; Lee — 15,069 cases; 223 deaths; Madison — 14,314 cases; 274 deaths; Jones — 13, 499 cases; 230 deaths; Forrest — 13,235 cases; 241 deaths; Lauderdale — 11,680 cases; 308 deaths; Lowndes — 10,557 cases; 179 deaths; and Lamar — 10,293 cases; 132 deaths.

Issaquena County remains the area with the fewest number of cases and deaths — 193 cases and seven deaths. It is the only county with fewer than 20 deaths and fewer than 600 positive cases.
