17 new COVID-19 cases in Lincoln County

Seventeen new cases of COVID-19 have been reported for Lincoln County since Wednesday, but no new related deaths. This brings the county’s totals to 5,341 cases and 133 deaths.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 822 new cases statewide Friday morning and 46 new fatalities. Thirty-four deaths were reported from death certificate reports over the past nine months, from Dec. 22, 2020, until Sept. 24, 2021. Twelve were reported Aug. 27-Sept. 29 across nine counties, including one in Walthall County.

The state’s total number of cases now is 489,216 and 9,646 related deaths. Among cases and deaths already reported, MSDH has identified five additional cases in long-term care facilities and two additional deaths.

To date, Harrison County has reported the highest volume of cases — 33,547 — and Hinds County has reported the most deaths — 599. The top counties by volume of cases and deaths are: Harrison — 33,547 cases, 507 deaths; Hinds — 31,457 cases, 599 deaths; and De Soto — 31,105 cases, 373 deaths.

Nine additional counties have reported more than 10,000 cases each and seven of these have reported more than 200 deaths. They are: Jackson — 23,943 cases, 361 deaths; Rankin — 21,629 cases, 381 deaths; Lee — 15,142 cases, 224 deaths; Madison — 14,356 cases, 275 deaths; Jones — 13,560 cases, 232 deaths; Forrest — 13,271 cases, 243 deaths; Lauderdale — 11,736 cases, 308 deaths; Lowndes — 10,633 cases, 180 deaths; and Lamar — 10,335 cases, 134 deaths.

Issaquena County remains the area with the fewest number of cases and deaths — 193 cases and seven deaths. It is the only county with fewer than 20 deaths and fewer than 600 positive cases, and has remained unchanged over the past week.

In counties neighboring Lincoln County:

• Pike: 5,664 cases, 142 deaths — 13 new cases and one additional death

• Copiah: 4,362 cases, 89 deaths — eight new cases

• Walthall: 2,130 cases, 61 deaths — five more cases and one more death

• Lawrence: 2,080 cases, 36 deaths — four new cases

• Amite: 2,006 cases, 52 deaths — 10 new cases

• Franklin: 1,170 cases, 28 deaths — one more case

• Jefferson: 931 cases, 33 deaths — five more cases
