Vaccine boosters now available at all county health departments

COVID-19 Pfizer vaccination boosters are now available at all county health departments in Mississippi.

Anyone who qualifies can make an appointment by calling the COVID-19 hotline at 877-978-6453 or by visiting UMC’s website.

Booster shots help maintain immunity which may decrease over time, according to a statement from the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Boosters are available for anyone who has been fully vaccinated with two shots of Pfizer vaccine and it has been at least six months since the second shot.

Eligible patients also must be age 65 or older, be a long-term care facility resident, be at least 18 with an underlying medical condition or be at least 18 and in a occupation that increases their risk of exposure.

Third or additional shots of Pfizer and Moderna for people with weakened immune systems are also available at county health departments.

Vaccines are also available at numerous other providers, including clinics and pharmacies. Check www.vaccines.gov/search/ for all locations.

Vaccine cards should be taken to booster shot appointments.
