Cora Evelyn Ables Thompson Wilson was 92 years young when she left us to be with our Lord on September 25, 2021. She was born January 22, 1929, to the late Marvin and Thelma Ables of Coxbury, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Loraine Ables Holley of Flora, Mississippi, and Joyce Ables Bishop of Raymond, Mississippi; husbands, Daniel B. Thompson of Knoxville, Tennessee, and David E. Wilson of Lawrence County, Mississippi.

She is survived by her son, Viktor (Tammy) Thompson of Brookhaven; his children, Tyler (Emily) Thompson, Kori (Sawyer) Thompson Smith; daughter, Tobie Thompson Totsch; her don, Gene Totsch of Waynesboro, Tennessee; her great-grandchildren: Maddie Claire, Macy Thompson, Merritt Thompson, Hannah Smith and John Daniel Smith.

Evelyn traveled extensively when she married a career military man, Daniel B. Thompson, in August 1953. Seeing all Europe had to offer and everything in between. Back in the states she attended beauty college in Jackson, Mississippi which began a career she loved as a beautician for over 50 years.

In April 1967, she married David E. Wilson. Together they made their home in Jayess, Mississippi. Always with an open door for numerous nieces, nephews and friends to “Come in and stay awhile.”

When Evelyn retired in 2005 from Bob-Lens Pacesetters Salon in McComb, Mississippi, she was busier than ever. She joined Piecemakers Quilter’s Guild of Brookhaven, the Brookhaven Blossoms Red Hat Society, and the Pleasant Grove Community Crafters. She was faithful in her beloved Pleasant Grove Church’s ministries, giving in any way she could.

Evelyn was a survivor. Not only beating breast cancer in her 60s, but two lung surgeries for tuberculosis, where she resided at the Mississippi State Sanatorium in her late teens and twenties, “Life is a gift” she’d always say.

A celebration of her life will be October 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Church, 1098 Pleasant Grove Road, Monticello, MS.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery fund.

Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences can be given to the family online at www.williamsfh.com.
