Brookhaven artist Derek Covington Smith has won an award at the Cotton District Arts Festival 2021 Juried Arts Competition in Starkville. Smith’s painting, “No. 3,” won second place in the 2D category, also snagging a $250 prize.

Entered works will be on display at the Mississippi State University Visual Arts Center until Oct. 30.
